Climb your own Everest

This talk tells the story of the 1993 expedition to retrace the steps of Edmund Hilary and Sherpa Tenzing 40 years after their record breaking ascent. I was the team nutritionist. It was my job to meticulously plan the food that the team would eat before and during the expedition. It took six months of research, planning and procurement. I even found out what Hilary and Tenzing had eaten on their famous trip and included some of their choices in the mix.

In Climb your own Everest I will share with you the secrets of fuelling the body for such a physical and mental challenge. Whether you are interested in a little Munro bagging at the weekends or planning your own Himalayan adventure, I can show you how what you eat can make all the difference.

In 1993, one of the climbers following my Himalayan eating plan was Rebecca Stephens who, if she reached the top, would be the first British woman to climb Everest. Rebecca made it – an incredible achievement. I believe that it was something she ate, but I could be biased!

This talk is suitable for anyone fascinated by human endurance, adventure and travel. If you would like to find out more please call me on 01339 882487 or drop me an email to discuss your requirements. You can read more about the expedition in Rebecca Stephens’s book On top of the world.
